(mini round) ROLE: THE GUARD
ROLE: THE GUARD
At any time after Sunday at 11pm, even if you happen to be in your quarters - there will be a note addressed to you that has been placed on the desk in your room, prominent and unmissable. It is signed by the Manager.
Should you head towards the Suite, you will find that the door is now easily opened even without a key, and behind it, it opens to a classy, modern suite - the Manager is waiting behind her desk. When you arrive, she will rise - and gesture to the folded card on the table.
On one fold, a copy of the below rules and guidelines can be found printed in neat handwriting - the Manager's. The other fold is blank, for now.
"I've been waiting for you both, Guards."
--
Upon leaving the Suite, you will not be able to access it again until the following week. After your first visit, you may realise, as well, that the blank third page of your personal rulebook now holds an IC copy of the below guidelines and rules for your role. This will be visible for your eyes only, unless someone looks at it with a blacklight.
Come to the President’s Suite at the end of the 6th floor. Be discreet. It is important.

Rules and Guidelines
Yuki and Alan, you have both been selected as the Guard! More commonly known as the protector role, you have a stab (ha) at preventing some of the murders from happening and changing up the dynamics of the game!
To summarise key aspects of your role:
We hope you enjoy your role! Please also feel free to use this post for any communication with the Manager - please bear in mind that you will only be able to access them, IC-ly, on Sunday nights.
To summarise key aspects of your role:
1. As the Guard, both your characters will have the ability to protect up to three people each week from being targeted for murder, although that may come at the potential cost of your own life.
2. You cannot protect the same character over consecutive weeks (e.g. choosing to protect Character A in week 1 and week 3 is ok but not week 1 and week 2) and you cannot choose to protect yourself.
3. If any one character you have chosen to protect is selected as a victim for the week, there are three potential outcomes:OOCly, the mods will be using a 20-sided dice roll to determine the outcome between the three in the event that your attempt to protect someone is successful. Please note that the more people you choose to protect weekly, the more you will be likely to have to sacrifice yourself in the original victim’s place! For instance, choosing to protect three people each week means that the probability of a success roll (i.e. you don't die) is lower than if you protect only one person per week.
- The killer will be forced to switch to a completely different victim (i.e. both you and the original victim survive)
- One of you will be able to intervene in the planned murder and save the original victim. Depending on the cases planned for each week, there may be an opportunity to turn the tables on the killer instead. (i.e. the original victim will survive and there is a chance you may be able to take the killer down instead - you will also be considered the culprit for that particular week's case. This is however left up to OOC discussion and the murder proposals we have received for the week.)
- One of you will die in the original victim's place. (i.e. you will be the confirmed victim)
4. Selections are due 12PM EST/9AM PST Monday of each week so that we have time to coordinate with the murder proposals. Please indicate two selections on the corresponding top level for each week:ICly, you will be expected to fill in the blank card with your choices and hand it back to the Manager before leaving the Suite. OOCly, please feel free to use this post for any role related discussion!
- A list of no more than 3 people whom you would like to protect
- Between the two of you, who we can call upon for murder/put on the chopping block in the event of a successful save
5. For ease of logistics (and to help your mods in coordinating multiple cases where necessary), when carrying out Guard duties, "guard blinders" will be in effect, where you will not be privy to details of any other cases aside from your own. If you happen to cross paths with anyone else, they will be unaware of your existence, and you of theirs - this applies to bodies and other evidence as well.
6. Given that there are no private conversations for this round, we would advise that you be cautious if you want to divulge your role to anyone else and recommend that you try and keep your role both an IC and OOC secret for as long as it is feasible! If a situation arises that you would need to tell someone of your role, please give the mod team a heads up so that we can factor this into our plans for the game.
We hope you enjoy your role! Please also feel free to use this post for any communication with the Manager - please bear in mind that you will only be able to access them, IC-ly, on Sunday nights.

[It's immediate, forceful almost. He's used to taking this sort of risk by now, and after everything he's been through, he knows there's at least a fairly decent chance that he'll come out the other side.]
If anything happens... I've had to fight people before back at home. I'm no professional, but I should at least be able to hold my own in a fight.
[Even with weapons involved. Of course, he should probably find a way to arm himself too, but...]

You saw what happened, though. Would you be able to fight against death if this place wants you to die?
[ The thought is terrifying. ]
I was here last week too. I promised Kaeya I would do it this week. It’s not fair to you to do it.
no subject
[It's a terrifying thought, but after what he's already seen...]
I agreed to this because I don't want to see anyone else die here. Whether or not it's "fair" doesn't come into it. This is a risk I'm willing to take.

[ He looks at Alan for a long moment. Alan is right. This isn’t fair. Still… Yuki doesn’t want to see anyone else for either. ]
And if I fought you over this?
[ Yuki is realistic. He knows he couldn’t take Alan on and win. But he’s floating this possibility anyway. ]
no subject
[He doesn't WANT to, but if Yuki tries, he's not about to back down, either. The fact that he knows he could win in a fight is part of why he's volunteering for this in the first place, after all.]

He isn’t a reckless person, and he always tries to not do anything stupid. Tohru wouldn’t want him to.
His shoulders slump a little as he frowns. ]
…No.

[As long as he gets his point across without the need for an actual fight, he'll take it.
He's seen enough death this week; the last thing he wants is to see a kid die too when he has the ability to keep that from happening. He's been given this power for a reason, so he's going to use it, damn it.]

Yuki backs up so that he can lean up against the wall because his legs feel weak. He hates this.
There’s a moment where he considers trying to tackle Alan, but he knows better. He closes his eyes and lets out a long, shaky breath. ]

... look. I don't know what's going to happen, but I don't have any intention of dying here. All I know is that I was given this choice and I'm going to use it.
no subject
Don’t die.
no subject
[That earns Yuki a little smile, strained and tired but still genuine.]

Good. Now go submit the names before I run over there and do it before you can.
